Becoming a Christian

While the experience of becoming a Christian is different for everyone, there are a few common ideas that all believers in Christ understand. These are the concepts one must grasp to become a Christian.

  • Life

God loves you and wants you to experience life – eternal and abundant. Jesus said in John 3:16, “For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.” He also said in John 10:10, “…I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.”

  • sin

We are all sinners by nature and by choice. We choose to disobey God and go our own way. Our sin separates us from God. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

  • Jesus

Jesus is the only answer to our sin problem. He came to earth, died on the cross and rose from the dead, paying the penalty for our sin and bridging the gap between God and sinners. First Peter 3:18 says, “For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, that He might bring you to God.”

  • Repentance, Faith and Surrender

We must repent of our sin, place our faith in Jesus for our salvation, and surrender our lives to Him as Lord. Romans 10:9-10 says, “If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation.”

  • HOW TO RECEIVE CHRIST AS SAVIOR AND LORD:

    1. Admit your need (I am a sinner).
    2. Be willing to turn from your sin and to God (repent).
    3. Believe that Jesus died for you on the cross and rose from the dead (faith).
    4. Through prayer, ask God to forgive you of your sin and take control of your life (surrender).
  • What to pray

Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and need Your forgiveness. I believe that You died for my sins. I want to turn from my sins. I now invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as Lord and Savior.

                                                                                                             In Jesus' name. Amen.
